Skills and abilities frameworks

We have worked with the Judicial Skills and Abilities Framework (JSAF) working group chaired by Lady Justice Falk to create a unified framework called the Judicial Skills and Abilities Framework (JSAF). It aligns the standards used for recruiting, training and appraising judicial roles. Read more about:

What this means for candidates

This change means that:

  • up to September 2025, all recruitment exercises will continue to use the existing competency frameworks and JAC Skills and Abilities frameworks
  • from October 2025, all new exercises will use the JSAF framework

When you apply for a role, the advert and information page will clearly highlight which framework will apply. This will not change throughout the process.
