20 years of the JAC 

This month marks 20 years since the independent Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) was established, under the 2005 Constitutional Reform Act. 

Since then, over 13,000 judicial vacancies have been filled with the JAC selecting candidates solely on merit after fair and open competition. 

Now over 85% of judges currently in post have been selected for a judicial role by the JAC. 

We will be reflecting on 20 years of the JAC with content and updates throughout the year. We look forward to sharing more in the months ahead.
