JDF statement to accompany the publication of the 2024-25 Judicial Diversity report
The Judicial Diversity Forum (JDF) welcomes the publication of the Diversity of the Judiciary: Legal Professions, New Appointments and Current Post-Holders – 2025 Statistics.
Now in its sixth year, this annual report brings together data on the diversity of the judiciary – including magistrates and non-legal tribunal members – the judicial appointments process, and the legal professions (barristers, chartered legal executives, and solicitors) from which much of the judiciary is drawn.
The 2025 report includes expanded data on disability and more data on social mobility, measured by type of school attended. A summary of the key findings is included in the report, which is annexed to this statement.
The Ministry of Justice is publishing a new dashboard tool to make it easier to view and interpret some of the data within the report. We hope to expand this in future years.
JDF member organisations remain committed to improving the quality and scope of data collected. This report is a valuable addition to the evidence base that informs our collective efforts to support and promote greater diversity within the judiciary.
