The Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) has published its Diversity Update for January 2026 , setting out progress and analysis in support of its statutory duty to encourage diversity in the range of candidates available for judicial appointment.

I was diagnosed with a chronic arthritic condition when I was 7 years old. I spent a lot of time in hospital during those early years, my disease was very active, and my immune system seemed intent on taking my life.

I worked as a commercial property solicitor in the City pretty much throughout my career, becoming head of global real estate. I had a great time, but after 30 years I was ready for a different culture and new experiences.

My professional background is in social care and health which I have been working in for over 30 years.
