I was appointed to the Property Tribunal in 2023 and fit in Tribunal work around my day job, working full-time as an architect in Sheffield.

Tribunal judge Samina Majid was appointed as a fee-paid judge of the First-tier Tribunal, Social Entitlement Chamber, in 2019.

Lesley Smith is a full time Judge of the Upper Tribunal, Immigration and Asylum Chamber. She was previously a fee-paid Lawyer Chairman of the Residential Property Tribunal, and a senior Government Lawyer with the Treasury Solicitor’s Department. Lesley is a former ILEX Fellow.

David Chrimes is a (salaried) District Tribunal Judge of the Social Entitlement Chamber, in the SE Region, based at Luton Magistrates’ Court.

I had been a solicitor in private practice for 20 years, specialising in employment law when I was appointed as a salaried Employment Judge in 2019.

After qualifying as a barrister, I completed pupillage in a leading set of chambers in Cardiff in 1979. There was only one female member of those chambers with very few other women practising anywhere in Wales, a level of representation reflected throughout the judiciary at that time.

I was born and raised in Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland. I was the eldest daughter of the well-respected village butcher, who pushed me to go to grammar school and from the age of 13 years old, I developed a very definite aspiration to become a solicitor.

I was called to the Bar in 2006 and since then I have been fortunate enough to have had a varied career working both at the Bar and within executive positions.

I attended my local comprehensive and read English at university before converting to law. I qualified as a barrister but spent most of my career as a solicitor. For 20 years I worked in global law firms specialising in complex cross-border finance transactions.

Anyone who met me as a child would not have thought I would have become a judge, let alone a judicial lead with the title of President.
