This tool gives you the chance to practice for the qualifying test and get used to the software, format and question style we use.
The practice test includes:
- five situational judgement questions (10 minutes)
- five critical analysis questions (10 minutes)
There will be a timer indicating how much time you have left. You can take a break in between each section. As soon as you press ‘start now’, the timer will go green and begin counting down. The timer will turn red when you enter the last 1 minute.
The questions appear one at a time. You can skip questions and return to these at the end, provided you have time remaining.
Read the instructions for each question carefully.
When you have given your answer, press the purple ‘Save and continue’ button. At the end of the section, you can review your answers before pressing ‘Submit answers’.
To complete the next section of the test, you can use the link under ‘Next steps’.
Situational judgement
Each question describes a situation that could happen in the role of a judge.
You will not be tested on legal rules or procedures. Instead, you’ll be assessed on your ability to judge how appropriate different actions are.
For each question, you will be given five possible actions. You must choose:
- the most appropriate action
- the least appropriate action
You will get one mark for each correct choice, so there are two marks per question. You will not get any marks for choosing any other answers.
Critical analysis
In a real qualifying test, you would receive a written text to read before the test day as part of your preparation.
In this practice version, the text will be given to you just before you start the critical analysis questions. You can take as much time as you need to read it, and you can keep a copy with you during the test.
The timer will only start once you move on to the questions.
All the information you need to answer the questions is in the text.
Each question has four answer options, but only one correct answer. You will get one mark for each correct answer.
After the test
At the end of the test, you will see your score.
You can take the test as many times as you like. Your scores are not recorded, and the JAC cannot identify who has taken the practice test.
This is a practice test, so your result does not predict how you will perform in a real qualifying test. You can use this test along with other resources to help you decide if you’re ready to apply.
Diversity data
We ask some questions for diversity monitoring. This helps us improve how we support candidates from all backgrounds. Your answers will not be used to identify you, and they will not affect your application in any way. If you don’t want to answer a question, you can choose ‘prefer not to say’.
Reasonable adjustments
Before a qualifying test, candidates can request or discuss reasonable adjustments with the team. The practice qualifying test is set up in an accessible format and should meet most requested adjustments apart from additional time. Contact us if you require alternative reasonable adjustments.
Take the practice test
You can practise both parts of the qualifying test online.
